Since January 1, 2021, Dr. John Lee has been serving as the Managing Director of Merck Group in Taiwan and is responsible for the developments of the Group and its subsidiaries in the country.
Dr. Lee joined Merck in 2011 and became the General Manager of Merck Display Technologies Taiwan in 2015. Committed to introducing cutting-edge technology solutions, he led several innovative collaborations and projects that broke new ground for Taiwan’s Display Industry. In 2016, he was appointed as the General Manager and Country Lead for Display Solutions in China. During his tenure in China, he successfully tackled numerous challenges and re-established Merck’s leading position in the very competitive China market.
In October 2019, Dr. Lee was relocated to Merck’s headquarters in Germany and joined Surface Solutions Business Unit as the Vice President and Head of Franchises. Under his
leadership, the operations of three franchises were strengthened and smoothly synchronized in the new Surface Solutions matrix model. Dr. Lee has been instrumental in laying the foundations for the success of the business through a strategic and cultural transformational program at Surface Solutions.
Prior to joining Merck, Dr. Lee held management positions at several multinational corporations, including IBM (US), Procter & Gamble (US and Japan), and Cookson Electronics (Taiwan). He was one of the co-founders of a specialty chemicals start-up (Evervictory Acutech Corp.) in Taiwan.
In addition to his role at Merck, Dr. Lee is also dedicated to broad interactions across various industries and associations. He has been elected as the 2022~2023 Board of Governors of American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan (AmCham) and further becomes the Vice Chairman of AmCham (2023) and continues to be elected for 2024~2025 Board of Governors. Meanwhile, he is one of the founding members of German Business Alliance at German Trade Office (GTO). In addition, he serves as the Board of Directors at Taiwan Display Union Association (TDUA) and Taiwan Display Materials & Devices Association (TDMDA). In 2023, Dr. Lee is further elected as the 14th Board of Supervisor of The Allied Association for Science Park Industries, Taiwan.
