Mélanie Marcel is the President of SoScience. She is an ESPCI engineer specialising in wave physics and neuroscience. Following her research on brain-machine interfaces, Mélanie created SoScience, a start-up specialising in responsible research and innovation, an R&D approach that takes social and environmental impacts into account from the outset of the innovation process.
Mélanie Marcel has developed in-depth knowledge of responsible research and innovation (RRI), which led to her selection as an expert by the European Commission to participate in defining the concept. She advises both private and public actors on new innovative practices in research. She is the author of ‘Science et Impact Social: vers une innovation responsable’ (Science and Social Impact: Towards Responsible Innovation), published by Editions Diateino (2017).
Mélanie Marcel is passionate about the intersection between innovation and global impact. Her commitment to thinking about science as a vehicle for societal impact has been recognised: Mélanie is an Echoing Green Fellow 2017 and Ashoka Fellow 2018.
