Noam Adir

Prof. Noam Adir is the Executive Vice President for Research of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel. He also serves as the CEO of the Technion Research and Development Foundation Ltd. He previously served as the Dean of the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry for six years, as the Deputy Executive Vice President for Research and as the Deputy Vice President for Safety of the Technion. Prof. Adir obtained his B. Sc. in Chemistry and PhD in Biochemistry from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. He performed Postdoctoral research in the Dept. of Physics at the University of California, San Diego. He joined the faculty of the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry of the Technion in 1995 and holds the Bertha Hertz-Axel Chair in Chemistry. His research interests include X-ray crystallographic and Cryo-EM determination of biologically relevant macromolecular structures; the structure and function of photosynthetic reaction centers and antennas; the study of energy and electron transfer processes in biological systems; the direct use of photosynthetic systems for solar energy conversion to electrical current and storable fuels and forming functional connections between isolated photosynthetic complexes and nano-materials or anodic structures. His group is also interested in stress related proteins, enzymes, development of novel anti-microbial compounds and homology-based modeling of medically important proteins.
