HLF SUMMIT 2026: DAY 2

The second day of the HLF Summit 2026 opened with a powerful sense of alignment between local leadership with an European vision.

Grenoble, recently awarded European capital of innovation, welcomed over 250 participants to mark the official launch of the Summit. From the heart of the Alps, the city reminded us that global ambition often begins with strong regional commitment

The voices of Julie Galland, Bruno Charrat, Christophe Ferrari, Jean Francois CLAPPAZ, Catherine Staron, Mahamadou DIARRA and Eric Piolle echoed a shared belief in the strategic role of public research. Each message reinforced the importance of long-term investment in scientific capacity and technological sovereignty. The ceremony included a personalised message from the European Commissioner for Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva

Her words brought a clear signal: Europe needs strong ecosystems to face complex transitions. Three keynotes then addressed a distinct vision of the transformations ahead

Frederic Pariente questioned how artificial intelligence is reshaping the economy

General Pierre-Joseph Givre spoke with clarity about the shifting balance of global power

Hughes Metras closed with a deep reflection on the infrastructures needed to sustain scientific progress

From uncertainty to the unknown, the HLF Summit began by framing the right questions. The opening brought forward perspectives that now shape the course of the Summit
