Philippe Wieczorek

Philippe Wieczorek joined MIAI as its director in November 2025, succeeding to Eric Gaussier who initiated the institute. MIAI is a research institute in Artificial Intelligence that gathers more than 590 researchers in AI and 104 laboratories in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Supported by France 2030 and led by UGA, MIAI is one of the nine French AI Clusters, and regroups the major academic actors in AI from the region (CEA, CHU, CNRS, inria, INSERM, ENSAG, UGA, GEM, Grenoble INP, Science Po Grenoble, UCA and USMB).

Philippe is in charge of the overall coordination of the institute, whose objectives are to develop state-of-the-art technology, provide AI education at every level (higher education, secondary and primary schools, professional education and vulgarization for the society), and facilitate AI integration in the industry by fostering partnership with enterprises. Prior to joining MIAI, Philippe worked for Minalogic as its innovation director, in charge of initiating public-private partnerships to facilitate technology transfer and find private and public funding to support innovations.

Before Minalogic, Philippe was chief of staff of the International Board of Directors for HP in France, after numerous positions managing HP’s R&D & Innovation in the Grenoble area. During his 15-year career at HP, Philippe managed international R&D teams to bring innovative products to the market. Before HP, Philippe worked in the services industry, for Cap Gemini. He began his career in start-ups involved in industrial measurements and networking.

Philippe’s expertise ranges from software technologies and business models, with a strong focus on networking and telecommunications and Artificial Intelligence. Philippe served in several R&D positions, from software developer to R&D department Director. Philippe owns ~20 industrial patents.
