Gilbert Declerck

Biography

Gilbert J. Declerck received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the KULeuven in 1972.

In 1984 Gilbert Declerck was member of the team, founding imec in Leuven, Belgium.

In 1993 Dr. Declerck was elected Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

In 2008 he received the IEEE Frederik Philips Award for ‘Leadership in the creation of international R&D alliances in semiconductor technologies’

From June 1999 till July 2009 he was President and CEO of imec.

As off January 2012 he is acting as independent advisor and remains Member of the Board of imec International.

Since October 2012 he is Professor Emeritus at the KULeuven.

In May 2014 Prof. Declerck became President of the Belgium Japan Association (BJA).
In September 2015 he was appointed as Chairman of Leuven MindGate.
In September 2015 Prof. Declerck was elected International Fellow of the Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP).
In November 2016 Prof. Declerck received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon from the Government of Japan for his outstanding contribution to the enhancement of economic relations between Japan and Belgium.

He authored and co-authored over 200 papers and conference contributions.
