He has a master degree in mechanical engineering from the EPFL and a PhD from the Institute of Aerospace Thermodynamics of the University of Stuttgart. In 1999 he started as a scientific researcher in laser diagnostics to study combustion in gas turbines at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR).
In 2005, he joined Robert Bosch Corporate Research GmbH in Stuttgart. In different positions as an intrapreneur and senior expert in fluid mechanics and agile product development, he developed future products and advised different business units of the Bosch Group. Furthermore, parallel to his activities at Robert Bosch, he gave lectures in fluid mechanics.
In 2018, he joined EPFL. In 2021 he was appointed Director of Industry Affairs at the Vice Presidency for Innovation, at the interface between industry and academia, to foster knowledge and technology transfer to society and facilitate the creation of successful research partnerships.
