Tim Boyle

Tim Boyle is Director, Innovation & Commercialisation at ANSTO (Australia’s Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation) and Founder and Executive of the nandin Innovation Centre, ANSTO’s centre for deep technology commercialisation and entrepreneurship. Tim has a strong track record in developing the interface between research and business, with 20 years’ experience across various industry engagement, technology transfer, innovation and economic development roles. A self-confessed innovation policy and metrics geek, he also has a detailed understanding of the “impact’ agenda and how to optimise the contribution of academic and mission based research to deliver benefits to society and the economy.
Prior to joining ANSTO, Tim held Knowledge Exchange and Commercialisation roles at UNSW including responsibility for the global Easy Access IP consortia which delivered a radical model to accelerate the transfer of IP into practical use. Tim has also held various knowledge exchange and technology development roles with Thomson Reuters (now Clarivate analytics), Johnson & Johnson, Avexa, AMRAD and University College London.
Tim has a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Wollongong, is a Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). He has won many innovation awards and accolades including the George Collins Award for Innovation (twice) and the Queens Award for Enterprise: Innovation (Technology). He is an Adjunct Professor with Swinburne University, Expert Faculty with Singularity University Australia and holds a number of board appointments including Chair – Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP), Deputy Chair – ShireBiz, Non-Executive Director, Knowledge Commercialisation Australasia and governance and advisory roles with the NSW Innovation and Productivity Council, National Imaging Facility (NIF), Standards Australia and the Institute of Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Technology (IIET).
